I am Sensei Padrón, the Chief Instructor of the Seireikaikan Karate-do Organization Kyokushin-ken. I am a former full-contact competitor in Kyokushin Karate. Growing up in Queens, NY, I have dedicated over 51 years to training Kyokushin/Oyama Karate.
My introduction to Kyokushin Karate came in 1973 through my cousin's training in Brooklyn and Manhattan. I had the privilege of studying under esteemed karate masters such as Shuseki-Shihan Oliver, Kancho Nakamura, and the legendary Soshu Shigeru Oyama. To keep me out of trouble amongst other events, I relocated to Ohio, where Oyama karate styles did not exist. In need of training, I joined a Shotokan group led by JKA instructor Hanshi Ron Burgess (also known as Nikiya Yamashita). After achieving my black belt at O.S.U. Karate Club, I simultaneously pursued Judo under Dr. John Beard and Iaido with Kotaka Sensei.
With Shihan Burgess's support, I established Ohio's first Kyokushin Karate club for Columbus City Parks & Recreation in 1994, known as Oyama Juku. In 2006, at the age of 40, I successfully completed the 30-man fight challenge (Sanju-nin kumite) in New York, facing 30 black belts in full-contact matches, which revitalized my karate spirit and provided a sense of personal achievement. In 2011, we introduced Kudo (Japanese MMA) to Ohio, launching the first Kudo club (Toro Dojo) in downtown Columbus, along with another location in Dayton, Ohio.
After more than 40 years of training in Kyokushin Karate, I experienced a pivotal moment in my martial arts journey. I felt compelled to explore my own path within Oyama Karate, seeking a deeper comprehension of my training and the opportunity to impart my philosophy, which integrates Judo techniques into Kyokushin Karate, culminating in the creation of the Seireikai Karate style.
